    Sep. 10, 2008 When trying to save a page using MSSQL Server 2005 Express, I get the following error:

    Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80040e2f'

    [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]The INSERT statement conflicted with the CHECK constraint "SSMA_CC$openwiki_revisions$wrv_comment$disallow_zero_length". The conflict occurred in database "intelp", table "dbo.openwiki_revisions", column 'wrv_comment'.

    /ow/owdb.asp, line 374

    I discovered it had to do with upsizing the Access db using SSMA and I must have selected one of the options to create the constraints. I deleted the constraints that began with SSMA and everything is working now.

    5-22-08 Russ My error is similar to those below. When using access database config string: OPENWIKI_DB = "Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};DBQ=C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\openwiki\data\OpenWiki.mdb"

    I am able to make changes to the wiki as long as i use http://localhost -- however, if i use my machine name (i.e. http://MYCOMPUTER) then i get the following error

    Error Type: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers (0x80004005) [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]Error in row /openwiki/ow.asp, line 3556

    Any advice?

    For problems below where after saving a page you're redirect to a "Page cannot be displayed" error, i ran into this problem attempting to use the SQL Native Client from SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, apparently it typically occurs with buggy or out of date ODBC drivers. Changing the OPENWIKI_DB driver part to as listed below fixed the problem for me (the remainder of the line was still needed). OPENWIKI_DB = "Driver={SQL Server}

    You can also enable server-side debugging for ASP applications and check the logs for detailed error messages.

    We've just installed Open Wiki and when we try edit (in this example the frontpage) any page, it takes you to http://servername/ow.asp?p=FrontPage&a=edit. When we click Save, we get re-directed to http://servername/ow.asp?a=edit with a:

    This page cannot be displayed.

    We've modified the directory permissions, made the Open Wiki account in SQL 2005 a dbowner... no joy. Any ideas?!? ___________________________________________________________________________________________

    I have installed openwiki, but when i try to run it from http://127.0.0.1/wiki/ I get the following error:

    Technical Information (for support personnel)

    What's going on?

    installed and have open wiki running however when I edet and the save a cange I get the folowing error any idear what I have wrong?

    Error Type: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers (0x80004005) [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Operation must use an updateable query. /OpenWiki?/ow/owdb.asp, line 353

    Any help would be appreciated.

    FIX,

    the permissions of the DB file and data directory are set wrong you need to change them.

    [jinoung] I have a same problem. Could you explain more about the permissions?

    [KW, 2007-08-05] I have the same problem on a Windows 2003 server. After I had manually added MSXML4 and granted "Everyone" the "Modify" permissions for the complete folder structure openwiki and all below (ow, data, etc), then it works. Otherwise not. But seems to me, that these are far too much permissions and therefore a security risk. What are the minimum required permissions?

    CORRECTION: it still does not work I can start the OW Frontpage successfully. But as soon as I click on a Link in the frontpage, I get a "Page cannot be displayed". After clicking "Back" in my browser (IE7), I get this error message:
    Provider error '80004005'
    Unspecified error
    /wiki/ow/owdb.asp, line 53

    [8/12/07] - I have same issue. Entire site is set with Everyone to Modify. Able to display default.asp, but clicking any link results in an IE 500 error. Clicking Back then results in the above error.

    [8/13/07] - No 12 hours later the thing works fine. No idea. IIS must have cashed a setting or a permission incorrectly. The wiki now works fine. Can anyone explain this?

    Portability

    Is it at all possible to transfer my already setup Open Wiki implementation from my Microsoft IIS server to a Linux server? I have put many hours into my wiki and would hate to have to redo it.

    Thanks, ~JD()

    Enable Bread Crumbs

    I have successfully installed Open Wiki on a WindowsXP? Pro machine. I would like to be able to see the trail of Open Wiki pages that I have visited, but this feature is not appearing. I have gone into Prefrences, and checked "Show Trail On Top", but no change. I see that this feature is working on the Open Wiki main site. Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks, -TM()

    My ow.asp opens Dreamweaver

    When I click the link on my webpage to go to my wiki it will just open a dialog box asking if I want to view it in Dreamweaver. Any ideas on

    what I am doing wrong? Web server not installed ?!
    Looks like da webserver not is installed! /sEi

    Use of locally stored images

    Do I have to take some particular action to embed pictures in my wiki??

    Use of the syntax local:ow/images/somepicturcunte.gif does not do much good, even though the picture is located in that folder.

    Help anyone??

    Installation is not clear...

    Note: READ the install.txt and readme.txt and ignore links to website until you are finished. The links confused me as they did not contain the additional information called for.

    I see that there is an installer directory. the build.bat errors with the following

    'makensis' is not recognized as an internal or external command...

    I manually created a virtual directory to owbase and editted the owconfig.asp file, adding the Access version OPENWIKI_DB variable value with the correct mdb path. The site then worked. Not too bad but these instructions should be on the main page if they are required or alternative instructions should be provided. I couldn't find any. (spammer sabotage?)

    I give up installing on remote server!
    I have been trying to install Open Wiki on a remote server. I have been forced to give up. Apparently Open Wiki is easiest to set up if you run the server yourself... These are the premises: *No virtual directories *Access with no DSN

    No virtual directories means I get:
    Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0126'

    Include file not found

    /mywiki/oasscandlew.asp, line 6

    The include file 'ow/owall.asp' was not found.

    The solution is to place Open Wiki in the directory of the Wiki being set up. This also requires a change in ow.asp, so instead of
    <!-- #include virtual="ow/owall.asp" //-->

    I had to have
    <!-- #include file="owbase/ow/owall.asp" //-->

    Great, now I get another error:
    Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'

    [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for process 0xa70 Thread 0xa2c DBC 0x20b1c074 Jet'.

    /web1/owbase/ow/owdb.asp, line 53

    This was a problem with OPENWIKI_DB I understood quite fast. With no DSN I have to tell Open Wiki where the Access .mdb file is located. But after a few hours of trying I eventually gave up and decided to try another more basic Wiki engine. In a debug mode that engine revealed the true path (d:) on the server!! So back to Open Wiki and in ow.asp change OPENWIKI_DB from:
    OPENWIKI_DB = "Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};DBQ=/clients/mysite.com/wwwroot/web1/data/OpenWikiDist.mdb"

    to
    OPENWIKI_DB = "Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};DBQ=d:\clients\mysite.com\wwwroot\web1\data\OpenWikiDist.mdb"

    (Note from p.g.) Here is another solution:
    OPENWIKI_DB = "Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};DBQ=" & Server.MapPath( "OpenWikiDist.mdb")

    It works for me without knowing details of my hosting. Could not do any harm. p.g.

    Well, it seems that was about right. But now I get:
    Error in ow.xsl: The system cannot find the path specified. line: 0 col: 0

    This one I give completely up on. If anyone has a solution, please give a hint. I'm giving up on Wikis for a while...
     - Asker

    Change... OPENWIKI_STYLESHEETS = "ow/xsl/" in you owconfig.asp file to OPENWIKI_STYLESHEETS = "/ow/xsl/"

    but don't be surprised if you continue to get other error messages. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

    Tried following the instructions for "Running multiple websites using one Open Wiki codebase" in the INSTALL.txt file. I get the error:
    Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0126'

    Include file not found

    /mywiki/ow.asp, line 6

    The include file 'ow/owall.asp' was not found.

    It looks to me like the other include files in the virtual directory work. Is there something peculiar about owall.asp? tom adams

    Hmmm, I take it no one has a solution?

    Don't waste your time, includes imbedded in virtual links, broke code.

    I installed Open Wiki on a W2000 server with VBscript 5.5 and MSXML 3 SP2. When I tried to open the default page I got the message below:

    Invalid XML document: Switch from current encoding to specified encoding not supported. line: 1 col: 44

    It seems that is related to encoding = 'ISO-8859-1'.

    Luiz C Morais Jr

    I had a similar problem, but installing MSXML 4 parser has fixed it. I don't know why it wouldn't work with MSXML 3 SP2. Perhaps some regional setting on the machine? --Dave Beer

    Error opening openwiki site
    I installed openwiki on a NT 4.0 server with SP6 and MDAC 2.6 XML parser 4 and VBscript 5.6. I get the installation down well page but when I go to the openwiki site I get the following error.
    Response object error 'ASP 0156 : 80004005'

    Header Error

    /openwiki/ow/owprocessor.asp, line 325

    The HTTP headers are already written to the client browser. Any HTTP header modifications must be made before writing page content.

    I have absolutly no clue what the problem is. Any help would be great. I have all the right set to the max. scripts / executable files / e.d. so that should not be a problem.

    Jeroen Roeterd

    I already worked it out. It is all explained in the following link http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;229657 I don't get it myself but I followed the advice and all is working now. I'am happy again.

    I'm trying to install Open Wiki and I get this error message

        Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0223'

        TypeLib Not Found

        /openwiki/ow.asp, line 2

        METADATA tag contains a Type Library specification that does not match any Registry entry.

    What can the problem be?

    I'am running it on a NT 4.0 with PWS 4.0 with VBscript 5.5 and MSXML 3.0

    I'm reasonably certain it's that the ADO dll isn't registered or that you don't have ADO installed. The METADATA Type= line is trying to get constants from the ADODB library. Either go to http://www.microsoft.com/data/download.htm , and download the MDAC thingy right for your system or... well... St Weasel

    Oracle 8.1.7.5 ODBC driver

    After working with the access MDB file, DB2 and Teradata I'm now trying to get Oracle to work on my machine so I can use it for what i originally got the software for. After strugging with Oracle ODBC (the oracle bin directory needs to be in the path!) I can connect to oracle and query the tables using SQLPLUS. However every time I try to save a page i get the following error

    HTTP 500.100 - Internal Server Error - ASP error

    Error Type:
    Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers (0x8beardedclam0004005)
    [Oracle][ODBC]Function sequence error.
    /wiki/ow.asp, line 3556

    Browser Type:
    Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0; Q312461; .NET CLR 1.0.2914)

    Page:
    POST 77 bytes to /wsausagejockeyiki/Default.asp

    The fix is to use the Microsoft Oracle ODBC driver. This would not work for me (it complained I had not installed some components from Oracle). After installing MDAC 2.7, DB2 7.2, re-installing service pack 2 and installing the latest critical updates package the Microsoft Oracle ODBC driver now works and the error goes away... Sigh... Now I know why i like working with MVS and JCL Richard Letts

    Any chance Open Wiki porting to an ApacheServer?

    Highly unlikely as Open Wiki is ASP-based and uses msxml3. Could conceivably migrate to ChiliASP?! but doubtful it would be successful. Stylesheets, etc are supposed to be portable but probably not in practice. Only way to do this would be to take the feature set and reproduce it by writing a completely new wiki from scratch. --DaveCantrell?

    I tried to set up Open Wiki. When I go to the defauls.asp page I see this error:

         Required property does not have a valid value.

         /openwiki/ow.asp, line 756

    I'm not familiar with ASP, so I have no idea what the problem is.

    -- RichieBielak? (richieb@netlabs.net)

    You've got msxml2 installed. Open Wiki requires that you install msxml3. You can get msxml3 at http://msdn.microsoft.com/xml -- Laurens Pit

    I also had MSIE 5.5 installed but still didn't have msxml3 for some reason. Downloading and installing it worked for me. -- Russ Freeman

    I'm catching this error now, and will display a nice helpful message. In version 0.73 -- Laurens Pit

    I've got it running and working locally from the NT server, but using it remotely I get:

         Library not registered.

         /wiki/ow.asp, line 1252

    Turns out this is a registry permissions problem and doing a search on the above pulls out an MS knowledge base article on it, which was pretty unhelpful other than pointing to the source of the problem 8-) -- Benjamin Ellis

    I'm catching this error now, and will display a nice helpful message with a link to the MS knowledge base article. In version 0.73 -- Laurens Pit

    The error message was fine but it did not show the registry key which was really involved. The MS knowledge base article describes the problem correctly, but with some other key. So, at least in my case, the key to look for ist "VB Script regular expression". Like so:

    I had some problems searching the registry, worked only after trial an error like copying the key to an editor and back. Maybe a registry guru can help. My own windows is in german, some expressions may be translated wrong. Feel free to correct. N. Ostendorf

    Still having problems with OPENWIKI_DB being 'redeclared'? I edited ow.asp and commented out Dim OPENWIKI_DB, right at the top where the constants are declared. That was just a guess from an ASP newbie, but, hey - it worked! -- RobertBrook?

    HELP!! I can't get it working What is the exact string that I need in my owconfig.asp to get an access database to work. Have tried every variation I can think of and I still get

                                                   -- JimSmith?

    There should be exactly one line saying something like:
    OPENWIKI_DB = "MySystemDSName"

    Make sure you don't have a line like that more than once. Also, make sure the line is not like:
    Const OPENWIKI_DB = "MySystemDSName"

    -- Laurens Pit

    An alternative (and simple) methode to access your database, is using Data Link Files :
    OPENWIKI_DB = "File Name=D:\PATH\OpenWiki.udl"

    -- Per Soderlind

    I have a question about this problem (the incorrect OPENWIKI_DB setting error - the same message Yun was getting...) but it is to do with having the access db on a network drive. I have done these two things: The problem is, I do not know what kind of syntax I should be using to access this remote directory:
      OPENWIKI_DB = "Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};DBQ=/openwiki/remote/OpenWiki?.mdbOpen Wiki.mdb"
      OPENWIKI_DB = "Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};DBQ=c:\Inetpub\wwwroot\openwiki\remote\Open Wiki.mdb"
      OPENWIKI_DB = "OPENWIKI" ' called the ODBC thingy "OPENWIKI"

    None of the above configs work, and I simply know it's just something silly I have left out, but I am at a loss as to what it is... -- Daniel Thomas

    The second one should work it it really where the data file is. You have to make sure there is read and write access to the folder where the data file is.
    The default install would be:
      OPENWIKI_DB = "Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};DBQ=C:\OpenWiki\data\OpenWikiDist.mdb"

    Here is what it would be for MSSQL:
      OPENWIKI_DB = "Driver={SQL Server};server=localhost;uid=openwiki;pwd=openwiki;database=OpenWiki"

    -- Bill Florac

    I have a similar problem. I created a system DSN pointing at the Open Wiki mdb file and then set OPENWIKI_DB to it:

    OPENWIKI_DB = "OPENWIKI"

    When I try to run it, I get:

    Error: Cannot find the data sources.
    Open the file owconfig.asp in your fav texteditor.
    Make sure you've set the constant OPENWIKI_DB correctly, pointing it to your data sources.

    I then set it to point explicitly at the .mdb file with this line instead:

    OPENWIKI_DB = "Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};DBQ=d:\inetpub\wwwexttest\openwiki\data\OpenWiki.mdb"

    When I do that it works a little better, I get an XML error:

    Invalid XML document:

    Switch from current encoding to specified encoding not supported. line: 1 col: 44

    A dump of the xml shows below this...

    I then created the SQL database and set OPENWIKI_DB to point at it as follows:

    OPENWIKI_DB = "Driver={SQL Server};server=mymachine;uid=OpenWikiPublic;pwd=XXX;database=OpenWikiPublic"

    and I get the same error about the invalid XML document as above. I did determine that it was finding the database by making one of the parameters incorrect and reloading the page. I get the error, then, that it can't find the data resources.

    I really wanted to play with this with the system DSN first and then migrate to a SQL database. Now I have the SQL database going; but I'm getting these XML errors. I'm confused as to what I'm doing wrong, and would appreciate any suggestions. I'm running IIS 5 under Win2K with SQLServer 2000. -- Al Gaspar (al.gaspar@lrn.va.gov)

    I have no idea just now, we're using the same setup without problems. The error you get is described at MSKB:q275883 though, maybe that helps?

    Andrew Finkenstadt and Steve Andersen wrote me suggesting that the problem was my version of the XML Parser. I upgraded to MS XML Parser 3 SP 2 and rebooted the machine. Now it all works . I never did resolve why I couldn't make the Access database work, but I'm happy with SQL. Any reason not to upgrade further to MSXML 4? -- Al Gaspar

    I am using MSXML 4 and it works fine with Open Wiki (change the MSXML_VERSION variable in owconfig.asp). -- Nate Silva

    Hi guys! This thing rocks. It was actually a breeze to install, and the error messages when necessery components were not in place were exemplary. Good job. The only problem I had was that it took me a little while to conclude that I had to execute the SQL script on the server to create the relevant tables and I had to edit this script a little (remove the username part: [OpenWikiPublic?].) to get it to run. Maybe you could add a little code that informs the user that this script needs to be executed if a table doesn't exist in the database.

    Can Open Wiki be installed on free server that has ASP capabilities ? How do I do it?

    sharuzzaman -AT- excite -DOT- com

    If they've also got MSXML v3 SP 2 or higher installed, then I see no reason why not. Simply upload all the files, and change the values in file owconfig_default.asp. -- lp

    I had a problem installing to a non-default location. I specified "c:\program files\Open Wiki" and it didn't work. The install seemed to go through OK, but the default page wasn't visible. Looking in IIS, the virtual root had been set to point to "c:\owbase" (which didn't exist), rather than "c:\program files\Open Wiki\owbase". Not sure if the space in the path name is the problem, or just the fact that I didn't choose the default. Uninstalling and re-installing with the default made things work.

    Also, shouldn't there be some explanation here of how to make things work with the different database engines? I've got MSDE (a version of SQL Server) installed here so I'd like to use it instead of Access.

    I am on a shared server (http://www.intermedia.net) which is currently using Software Artisans - SA-FileUp? V2.3 for file uploads. I had to disable uploads and comment out the <!-- #include file="owattach.asp" //--> in owall.asp to get things to run but it looks good so far. I may get a chance to convert owattach.asp to run SA-Fileup shortly unless someone has done so already. Beautiful Wiki Laurens! - Brian Shearer

    I hope I'm not repeating any info on File Attachments here, but I grepped the site looking for some info on how to set it up. Unfortunately, I didn't find any (I may not have been looking hard enough) so I pieced together what needed to be done (turns out it's not really that hard - Laurens Pit has done all the hard work and it's really very simple) and I'm showing the steps needed to get it running so others can see what needs to be done:

    File Attachments Howto

    cAllowAttachments = 1 ' 1 = allow attachments 0 = do not allow attachments (WARNING: Allowing attachments poses a security risk!! See file owattach.asp)

    I was very pleased at how easy it was, but I figured others might find the instructions spelled out useful... -- Daniel Thomas

    please see the info in the next block below as it contains further information that I was not aware of if you have any problems...

    NOTE: well Bob is definitely not my Uncle because I can't get this working and I've followed every instruction to the letter. I followed the directions given by Daniel Thomas above, but the link text "Attachments(0)" never appeared at the bottom of my pages. I found that if I manually added the query string "?p=currentpage&a=attach" I was taken to the attach page. Furthermore, I found I was able to attach a file. However, "Attachments(1)" never appeared. Also, if I checked the box to create a link to the attached file, the attached file name was displayed, but it was not a link. Finally, I should note that the files did appear in the "attachments" directory. However, I manually created the "attachments" directory inside the "owbase" directory. (That is, it is a directory at the same level in the hierarchy as "ow".)

    Thanks for the heads-up, I neglected to say that I did indeed create that directory manually. Also the infor re: SQL server is very useful as I'm hoping to migrate my openwiki db there soon... -- Daniel Thomas

    *Help on Help*

    I installed Open Wiki on my server and it works great. The problem is that it doesn't have help included in the install. Can I buy the help files from somewhere?

    -- Steven

    If you're looking for config help on settings etc. The best bet is to look in owconfig_default.asp - this is where most of your config settings are found. As for an actual help file - I don't think there is one. Help on formatting, etc is located inside openwiki itself. It's prolly a good idea to specify the config options in a file on this site, something like "open Wiki Configuration Help". Thoughts? -- Daniel Thomas

    Import the data from the MSAccess version - the SQL Server version is just empty tables so won't have any of the default entries. -- Jack Stockholm

    Actually, I'm asking another db question! I've now put my Open Wiki DB on the server and remotely pointing to it using ODBC. For me on my machine, it's ok. But when you try to access from another machine, the whole thing dies. I should note that the webserver is still running on my local machine. It is accessible by the others (it has other web apps on it that work fine)This is the error message I recieve:

    [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] The microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the
    file '(unknown)'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission
    to view its data.

    I've checked the read/write access to this directory. I even set it as a virtual directory in my web settings (I can browse to that directory from another machine). The line that fails is here (in the file owdb.asp):

    Else
      Set vConn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection")
      vConn.Open OPENWIKI_DB
      Set vRS = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Recordset")
    End If

    where OPENWIKI_DB is still set to "Open Wiki Dist"

    Is there anything I should change on the actual database. I've tried all the read/write permissions but the message about "It is already opened exclusively by another user" seems to get me thinking that there is some "exclusive mode" setting that I've missed... Any thoughts?

    -- Daniel Thomas

    'Exclusive mode' is related not to file permissions but .ldb. When you open the database via the MSAccess interface, the File->Open dialog offers a checkbox 'Exclusive' - this may be your problem? If the file is not open in MSAccess, try deleting the .ldb file. Also, ADO for MSAccess requires a default username of 'Admin' with a blank password. If that 'Admin' username isn't specified, it might cause an error. -- Jack Stockholm

    I've tried to install a wiki server on a Windows XP Professional (IIS 5.1) with an access Database. When I try to edit the Page I'll receive an error message

    I had the same problem on a WINXP pro installation. The problem was that I have to share the Open Wiki directory. In XP there is a option share by web of just share. Both have to be activated. Then it worked fine for me.

    good Luck.

    Jeroen Roeterd The Netherlands.

    I'm getting the same error (in English) using Windows XP Professional and IIS 5.1 with an Access Database. When I try to edit the page, I get an HTTP 500.100 error and the message:
    Error Type:
    Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers (0x80004005)
    [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Operation must use an updateable query.
    /OpenWiki/ow/owdb.asp, line 353

    Line 353 is conn.execute(vQuery). To try to debug this, I added a line just before 353 that would output vQuery. The response that I got, when I tried to edit the Front Page was
    UPDATE openwiki_pages SET wpg_changes = wpg_changes + 1, wpg_lastminor = 4, wpg_lastmajor = 4 WHERE wpg_name = 'FrontPage'

    This error occurs even when I'm logged in on the local machine as an administrator.

    Derrel Fincher (dfincher@gol.com) 5/12/2002

    Ive got the same error on Windows NT4.0 and Microsoft PWS. In addition I cannot open the database using Access97, whilst I can view the contents using MS Query.

    Downgrading the database to acces97 format doesn't help.

    It now works . The solution is to give the Web user IUSR_<servername> change rights on both the directory containing your .mdb database and the .mdb database itself.

    Has anyone got this working with My SQL? All I get when trying to save the Front Page is :

    Error Type: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers (0x80004005) [TCX][MyODBC?]Duplicate entry 'Front Page' for key 1 /wiki/ow/owdb.asp, line 344

    which looks like the code is trying to insert another record for the Front Page! The check for EOF is being tripped by I can't tell why - my ASP coding is not that hot.

    Taomyn ( taomyn@hotmail.com ) 30/5/2002

    Answer: delete "Front Page" & "Help" from openwiki_pages

    Hi. I'm using the TDX My SQL ODBC driver that I downloaded this week. I haven't picked any options seeing as this isn't documented anywhere - this isn't a dig, just stating that had I seen the installation of the ODBC driver somewhere, I would hopefully have got this correct. Taomyn 01/06/2002

    The options we have checked are: "Don't optimize column width", "Return matching rows", "Allow BIG results" and "Safety (Check this if you have problems)". The rest is unchecked. -- lp

    I did as you suggested, and I still got the same error. Adding the code above doesn't display the query as the "The page cannot be displayed" error page overwrites the browser window and it's lost. The odd thing is that the code is trying to insert a new Front Page record instead of updating it - surely this is wrong. BTW. It's My SQL 3.23.49-nt, if that makes a difference. Taomyn 05/06/2002

    Also, it looks like I'll have to stop using Open Wiki for the time being, as running the ASP code stops all PHP on my site working on my II server until I unload Open Wiki in the IIS manager. DOH!!! Taomyn 05/06/2002

    I'm having the same problem. Would be great to get it going, because I like the Wiki-idea and everything worked fine when I tried Open Wiki with the Access database. Now I'd like to make it available on our intranet, but I don't think Access is a good choice then. Joakim 05/06/2002

    When you execute the following command in the My SQL interface, what is the result you get? And which ADO DB version are you using? -- lp
    SELECT * FROM openwiki_revisions WHERE wrv_name = 'FrontPage' AND wrv_current = 1

    I did the installation again and now it works. The problems probably had to do with my previous experiments with Access. Joakim 11/06/2002

    Taomyn: Ok, I've now tried to start again from scratch, and now all I get is:
    Invalid XML document:

    The following tags were not closed: ow:wiki, ow:page, ow:body. line: 0 col: 0

    I looked in the code for the function that creates the line in error, and for some unknown reason it's failing to concatenate the closing tag?

    I'm hoping this is something simple, and it's just that's I've forgotten to do a step in the installation, but I can't for the life of me think what it is. 06/06/2002

    Taomyn: Sorry, this turned out to be a problem with the import of the default Access database into the My Sql ones. I've got another error, but I'll look further before reporting it as a problem. 06/06/2002

    Taomyn (again!): Ok, so I fixed the second error, which turned out to be because one of the tables was corrupt - might I suggest you include text versions of the default table data with the distributions for those of us without Access to export from (I tried to use Access2My SQL but that was what caused the corruption) - I can supply the files if you want. 06/06/2002

    I honestly am not sure what is out of sync and hoping someone has come across this OR can give me a direction to look in - I don't mind legwork whatsoever. The following:

    Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'

    [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for process 0x4e0 Thread 0xe28 DBC 0x180f024 Jet'.

    is happening and I am befuddled. I'd be willing to try mysql or any other database; basically whatever I can do to help anyone who has a clue about this error I'd be very thankful.

    Forgot to mention - win2k, IIS5, vb5.6, not positive on the ADO version.

    Would it be possible to get (If I overlooked it I apologize) a db_type = mysql; the correct format for sticking in mysql? I would appreciate it. NOT GIVING UP ON OPENWIKI! Love it.

    Check out MSKB:q238971. I don't quite understand your last question..? -- lp

    Last question -- where can I find an example of the correct syntax to place in owconfig to make it work with mySQL? DB_MYSQL I understand but the part _just_ above it I need help with. Thanks for the knowledgebase #; will let you know if that did the trick or not regarding that error. You're good Lauren!! PaulEllison?

    In my config file I have the following two lines:
    OPENWIKI_DB = "MySQLOpenWiki"
    OPENWIKI_DB_SYNTAX = DB_MYSQL

    Then in the ODBC Data Source Administrator from Windows I've got a System DSN defined with the name "MySQLOpenWiki?" which is using the My SQL ODBC driver with the following options checked: "Don't optimize column width", "Return matching rows", "Allow BIG results" and "Safety (Check this if you have problems)". The rest is unchecked. -- lp

    Lauren,

    I am just curious on what kind of a machine you are running this website?

    The website is running on a 600 Mhz, 512 MB, 30Gb HD machine (it's hosting many websites). The MSSQL Server is running on the same machine. The openwiki site that uses My SQL uses My SQL which is installed on a different (unix) machine -- lp

    I have it installed in my office as a knowledge sharing site for our group on a machine with 466 Mhz, 512 Mb RAM, 30Gb Harddisk. I use MSQL server 7.0 as my DB and we have a 10/100 bit network available. When a page is changed and I go to the recent changes page it takes 10 to 15 seconds to load that page. All navigation is this slow except when I return to a page which I accessed in the same IE session before. I now switched to the Moin Moin wiki because it uses plain txt files for storage and that perform very well on the same configuration. A changed page is presented within 1 or 2 seconds max.

    The fact is that I like Open Wiki more than moinmoin as far as formating ect. is concerned. (and the diff functionality (I do not have that working in moinmoin yet)).

    I suppose the slowness is because the ASP files have to make a connection to the SQL server but 10 to 15 seconds it way to slow to use it fully, even more because my wiki exists of very few pages yet (about a 85 pages now). Imagine that the DB is containing many hundreds or thousands of pages. Would that be slowing it down even more?

    What is a normal machine to run this at a acceptable speed? Are there any actions I can do to make the performance optimal. (accept buying a better/faster machine)?

    Greetings,
    Jeroen Roeterd

    I'm pretty sure the problem is not that your machine might not be fast enough. I've developed Open Wiki on a machine with "only" 128 Mb, 8Gb HD. Supposing it takes 10 seconds the first time you access the recent changes page, then it cannot take the same amount of time the second time you access that page, as pages are cached (in the database), therefor typically you should get the page within a few milliseconds. The cache is cleared only when a page is created and/or updated. Do you experience the same slowness when you use an Access database? -- lp

    i'm having the same problem - the pages load extreemly slow for what knd of setup i have. the server running it has 512mb of DDR RAM, and an Athlon XP 2400 Processor, i'm using IIS and Access Database. It's for in-house use so its all through a 100mbit network. i can't imagine why it loads and saves files so slowly (sometimes can take a few minutes!). if you have a solution, please email me at draxsath@hell.com - Thanks! -Draxsath

    I created a new version of owattach.asp. It isn't the nicest thing in the world, but it show how to use attachments with a freeware upload component. The source code has a link to where you can download the component.

         Funny thing is '/LM/W3SVC/1/Root?/' is not a path I recongnize....

    The above occurs because there is an application defined for the Virtual folder, so IIS is looking for a .asa file that doesn't exist. Make sure the text box is empty on the Virtual Folder definition, or hit the Remove button if there is one.

    I had to do a couple of things to get it to work on my computer (Windows 2000). First, I installed MSXML 3.0 from http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/search.asp?langid=20&langDir=en-us (search for XML and install most recent release). Also, I had to change the location of the files for the Open Wiki virtual folder in the IIS administrator. After that everything worked fine.

    When I changed the OPENWIKI_FRONTPAGE in owconfig_default.asp to be "SandOP?" the page showed up as "Sand Op" because I've got cPrettyLinks?=1. What I really want is "SandOP?" as in "SandOP?.com" our domain name. Any hints on how to fix this. I've gotten by this by using "SANDOP.COM" but this is getting pretty far from S&OP the real name of the business process (the "&" is a no-no for domain characters.).--Tom Johnson

    Ah! I had an installation that was working fine, then I did a bit of reading on the Open Wiki site, suggesting that I compact the MDB occasionally to reduce size. That being the only change I made today, it seems to have led to the following error:

    This is starting to look like fun. The Wiki server has finally come up after my fumbling through the installation. Now the site is up on the machine (at http://localhost/OpenWiki/ow.asp). Being new at this, i hope this question is not too basic, but how do i add Wiki pages? The Welcome screen is the only thing that appears saying "Congratulations! Open Wiki appears to be working." Guess i'll have to spend some time going through the code unless there is some documentation on where to go next. Come to think of it, does anyone read this page other than people who have installation problems? -mark

    @mark - a couple of ways to add new pages:
    1. Method 1:
      1. Double-click your starting page, and an editing area should come up
      2. At the end of the editing area, type the macro: <goto> then hit 'Save'
      3. You should now have a little input box and button on the page.
      4. Type a new page name (like 'NewPage?') in the box and click the button. You should then have made a new page!
    2. Method 2:
      1. Edit the URL at the top of the page. Just after 'ow.asp' type a question mark followed by the name of your new page

    After a little faffing about i managed to get openwiki to work on my external host. The only requirement was that i needed to use an oledb connection and make a couple of changes to the ASP code as follows:

    1) delimit all OPENWIKI_DB references in the owconfig_default.asp

    2) replace the vconn.open statement on line 53 of owdb.asp with the following 2 lines:

    OPENWIKI_DB = Server.MapPattitmouseh?("/wiki/data/OpenWikiDist?.mdb") vConn.Open "PROVIDER=MICROSOFT.JET.OLEDB.4.0;DATA SOURCE=" & OPENWIKI_DB

    plus change line 298 in the same script Conn.Open "PROVIDER=MICROSOFT.JET.OLEDB.4.0;DATA SOURCE=" & OPENWIKI_DB

    I'm installing on my laptop, XP Pro SP2. I could not get build.bat to do anything, so I created a directory, copied the contents of owbase to it, added it as a virtual directory named wiki to IIS, copied the database to another directory, created an ODBC entry pointing to it, and got it to display the front page. As soon as I do anything else I get an error:

    Error Type: Provider (0x80004005) Unspecified error /wiki/ow/owdb.asp, line 53

    If I retype the URL (http://localhost/wiki) I get the same error. If I leave the browser open, let it sit a few minutes, come back and hit refresh it opens, but the same error occurs if I try to do anything else.

    I can see that it is trying to open the database in line 53. I don't see anything wrong. I turned off 'simple sharing' and granted the IUSR account full control of the .mdb file, didn't help.

    Any suggestions?

    Also, I'd like to find some instructions for using openwiki in an embedded application. I can read ASP and figure it out, but if someone has an example or just a general "use a URL of this form" kind of instruction that would be helpful.

    Thanks!

    Ok, I was being a bonehead, I forgot to uninherit the permissions from the parent directory. Once I fixed that it works!

    Still wondering about using openwiki from within another app, I tried the control.asp example, I see what it does, but I want to restrict the user from doing certain things, I'll play around with the flags in owconfig_default.asp.

    ---

    I had the same issue Error Type: Provider (0x80004005) Unspecified error /wiki/ow/owdb.asp, line 53

    problem?

    I read the bits about sharing the folder on the network and as a web share, but this makes me a bit uneasy. Then there was a comment about giving the anonymous user access to both the data directory and to the MDB, but this doesn't really give me all the info I think I need. I'm running Windows XP Pro. Think I found the solution finally. This site provides a clear explanation of how to solve this problem on Windows 2000 and XP: http://xlinesoft.com/asprunner/docs/troubleshooting__operation_must_use_an_updateable_query__errors.htm

    Essentially you have to set the permissions on the data folder to allow full control by the internet guest account. The link above recommends giving everyone this permission, but I think that's a bit extreme and isn't necessary. Hope this helps the next guy!

    Mike

    George

    A little add for the solution above under Win server 2003 and IIS 6.0 - the "..\..\" is not allowed in server.mappath - so just use the subdirectory of InetPub? on down - this, plus the permission fixes documanted above fixed my installation. It appears that a system DNS is not enough to get the thing to work. The revised line (53) in owdb.asp:

               vConn.Open "Provider=MSDataShape?;DBQ=" & server.mappath("\openwiki\openwikidist.mdb") & ";Driver={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)};DriverId?=25;FIL=MS Access;MaxBufferSize?=2048;PageTimeout?=5;UID=admin;"

I must be missing something REALLY obvious. When I try to test the site http://localhost/openwiki all I get is "Page not found" 404 errors.

                Set GetPage = New WikiPage
                GetPage.AddChange
                GetPage.Name = "FrontPage"
                GetPage.Text = "Please provide a value for OPENWIKI_DB in your owconfig.asp file."
                Exit Function
            End If

    This code dumps your page whenever cWikiLinks? is set to 0. Shanya Almafeta, 6 Feb 2007.

    1 Feb 2008, Commenting out the above code fixes the issue.

    I have set up the system on our SQL server but we are getting the following error in the web browser:-

       -2147217865
       [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Invalid object name 'openwiki_pages'.

    Would appreciate any tips. emial: TERJE-AT-EXCELAN-COM-AU ________________________________

    SQL Server Installation

    Problem: Installation On SQL Server

    Problem:

    Ok...so I just (August 18th 2005 ~3pm est) downloaded the lastest and tried to set it up...without success. Here is what I did: - download and unzip to my webserver in new directory - create ow virtual dirtectory - created sql server database, ran script, created account and imported access content - change web1/ow.asp database connection AND ow/owconfig_default.asp as follows:

    OPENWIKI_DB = "Driver={SQL Server};server=myservername;uid=wikisite1;pwd=wikisite1;database=wikisite1"
    OPENWIKI_DB_SYNTAX = DB_SQLSERVER

    When I test I get the following error:

    Error Type:
    Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers (0x80040E21)
    Multiple-step OLE DB operation generated errors. Check each OLE DB status value, if available. No work was done.
    /ow/owpage.asp, line 365

    Browser Type:
    Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0)

    Page:
    GET /poolwiki/openwiki/web1/Default.asp

    Time:
    Thursday, August 18, 2005, 3:59:08 PM

    I will update this page with the answer once I have it working but I need help please!!

    Hello...I just installed Open Wiki on our server for our website. I do not have a local server. After much trial and error I finally got it to run. However, when I try to edit a page I get the following error:

    Microsoft JET Database Engine error '80004005'

    Could not use ''; file already in use.

    /openwiki/owbase/ow/owdb.asp, line 298

    Any suggestions???

    When installing on IIS 6, Parent paths are disabled by default, and the site breaks. See this KB issue for a fix and more info : http://support.microsoft.com/kb/332117

    When installing on SQL 2005, I was not able to use the Import tools to pull in the openwiki_revisions table from the supplied Microsoft Access database. Kept getting an OLE DB error. I ended up importing into a new table named openwiki_revisions_raw and using the query below to move the code into the right table.

    INSERT openwiki_revisions (wrv_name, wrv_revision, wrv_current, wrv_status, wrv_timestamp, wrv_minoredit, wrv_host, wrv_agent, wrv_by, wrv_byalias, wrv_comment, wrv_text)
    SELECT        wrv_name,
                    wrv_revision,
                    wrv_current,
                    wrv_status,
                    wrv_timestamp,
                    wrv_minoredit,
                    wrv_host,
                    wrv_agent,
                    wrv_by,
                    wrv_byalias,
                    LEFT(wrv_comment,1024) AS wrv_comment,
                    wrv_text
    FROM openwiki_revisions_raw
